Skiathos is one of the most cosmopolitan and most visited of all the Greek islands. There are several reasons for this. Although it is a relatively small island, it has more than 60 beaches, some of which rank among the best in Greece. The landscape has green hills covered in olive groves and pine forests that reach down to the beaches. The main town and the harbor is a bustling city with excellent nightlife and great shops – all located in an idyllic bay. The whole island is very well maintained with many picturesque locations. It may be a good idea to take a boat trip around the island to some of the less crowded beaches. On the north side of the island are the ruins of an old castle town in a beautiful, wild piece of landscape. Skiathos is a lively island, especially recommended outside of the peak season in July and August.
